Class UsMailingAddress

A specialization of Address that is used for addresses in the United Sates. Note that the stateOrTerritory property may only contain a code for a U.S. State, territory, or military postal region (APO). The purpose of this sub-type is to provide a mechanism to add the stateOrTerritory property and to bind it to the valueset of codes valid for United States mail.

An Address Part (ADXP) that contains the state or province. A state or provinces is a sub-unit of a country with limited sovereignty in a federally organized country.
The State code is defined in the USPS Publication 28. Note that while technically, each state "code" should be an Id, the enumeration of states has historically treated as a code.
